I think that depends on the level of intimacy that you have with that person. I think its kind of understood that when you are encountering someone that you are meeting for the first time or someone that you dont come in contact with often, or someone who is not your family or friend, that you ususally shake their hand. When you have established a relationship with someone and you know that they are special to you and you them, it just becomes more natural to kiss them on the cheek or receive kisses on the cheek. I guess you can say that you've arrived when those who used to shake your hand now kiss you on the cheek and you've got a whole new group of hand shakers, that means you just keep on making and keeping friends....aint life grand
