Testosterone boosts growth in humans. Men have more testosterone which is why they are usually bigger. As men grow their larynx grows and the Adam's apple bulges.

A larger larynx is also why men usually have deeper voices.

Testosterone, basically. Causes many subtle, and not so subtle sex differences in development of the organism.

PS you will see some woman who have a more developed Adam's apple. Pubertal testosterone higher than average?
