I have a weekend home alone with just my mom and it's totally free so I was wondering what some DIY gifts are I can make for christmas. I'm 14 and so are all my girlfriends. Also I have a mom, dad, and 3 little brothers (7, 9, and 12). Any idea's on appealing gifts to create.

You can create jars of cookie mix. Take all the dry ingredients to make you or your family's favorite cookies, put them in a mason jar, and decorate them with ribbon, markers, paint, etc. You can print out a little copy of the recipe and tie it to the jar with ribbon. All the gift recievers have to do is add the wet ingredients and bake. It is a SWEET and delicious idea for gift-giving. I plan on doing it this year. :)

Edit: You can also make personalized picture frames. You can buy plastic frames in different sizes from Wal-mart or other craft stores. You can decorate with different paints, buttons, ribbons, stickers, and quotes.

Good Luck!

I made "Journey Jars" for my family one year. I got regular cooking jars and decorated them (label on the front, ribbons and such on the side with tags). I typed out questions in different fonts and then cut them into strips and put them in the jars. It was easy to just print the same questions over and over again!

This can be a great way to get to know each other better -- with silly and serious questions. Also, if they will give you the answers, you can use that to make a scrapbook for them the next year.

Does your mom know how to knit or crochet? If she does, ask her to teach you. If not, search the internet for a site ( such as learntocrochet.lionbrand.com. ) that will teach you then buy a skein of yarn and a hook or needles and practice until you have it mastered. For gifts, make hats and scarves then as you get better, you can make sweaters for the family. Crocheting is much simpler than you would think,I taught my 9 year old cousin in about 30 minutes and in a couple of months she was better than I was!
