For example:

The Xcel corporation has increased its sales by 30% each year. If the corporation now has annual sales of $25990510, what were its sales six years ago?

I am obviously figuring the ratio wrong, becaues I keep getting the wrong answer and can't figure out why.

oops, I meant ratio, not "ration" in the original question.

ok, it sorta helps. How did you get the 1.3? That is what I am looking for.

One year ago, sales were 25990510/1.30 = 19992700.
Two years ago, sales were 19992700/1.30 = 15379000.
Three years ago, sales were 15379000/1.30 = 11830000.
Four years ago, sales were 11830000/1.30 = 9100000.
Five years ago, sales were 9100000/1.30 = 7000000.
Six years ago, sales were 7000000/1.30 = 5384615.38

Hope this helps :-)
