Sex. I actually had my ob tell my husband and I to have sex to bring it on. It works. Trust me.

I have taken castor oil and all it did was cause me to have cramping for a week. It tasted horrible and I suffered for it, I will never try that again. I would not encourage it, because for some reason your baby may not be ready. If you start contractions and your body is not ready all that will happen is give you a longer labor.
Black cohosh is not legal to give as an induction! It can be dangerous I would not try it without medical direction. Walking, breast stimulation, sex all these are natural and safe! Although they may not work, they have not worked on any of my 3. Breast stimulation causes your body to release the same hormone, potossin, that the Dr. gives in the hospital, so if done long enough it is actually the best form of induction, it is natural and is what you need to go into labor. Why I would make sure first....my 3rd son was VERY ready, a week late, I was at 7 cm. not in labor. His head was tilted though so it kept me from going into labor. We worked on some excercises to get his head in a better position, and it worked several hours later. If I had tried to induce with his head in bad position I would have labored for hours. As it turned out after his head moved, he came out within 15 minutes!

Two hours of nipple stimulation/massage worked for me. Here are some ideas:

"What triggers labor is still a mystery. While initial uterine contractions efface (or soften) and dilate the cervix a bit, these contractions can take weeks and don't actually bring on labor. More complex factors are responsible, including an exchange of hormonal signals between you and your baby.

But when your due date has come and gone, you'll long for something to jump-start the process. Pregnant women have tried a range of things, but are they effective? Possibly, say experts, but only if you're on the brink of labor or in its early stages. If you're tempted to try, here's what to keep in mind:

EATING

WHAT? Spicy foods or anything chocolate.

WHY? Spices and caffeine are thought to act as laxatives and start contractions.

DOES IT WORK? No. While food that taxes your digestive system could lead to irregular uterine contractions, it's more likely to cause heartburn than labor.

ACUPRESSURE

WHY? Certain spots between the thumb and the pointer finger, near the ankle, and on the shoulder are considered by shiatsu practitioners to be linked to the uterus. Pressing these points, it's thought, can speed labor up.

DOES IT WORK? It's uncertain: Experts don't know enough about this practice. Some shiatsu specialists only recommend it if you're already in labor.

SEX

WHY? Semen contains prostaglandin, a natural fatty acid that helps soften and dilate your cervix. That, as well as an orgasm, can cause your uterus to contract.

DOES IT WORK? Only if you're so near to term that your cervix has started to efface.

WALKING

WHY? During a long walk, gravity lowers the baby, and the pressure on your cervix can dilate it.

DOES IT WORK? Not unless your cervix is already effaced. Walking long distances can start contractions by irritating the uterus. But the contractions usually end once you stop moving.

NIPPLE STIMULATION

WHY? Rubbing your nipples with your fingertips helps release the hormone oxytocin, the natural version of the labor-inducing drug Pitocin, which causes contractions to begin.

DOES IT WORK? It can. But it's a slow process that requires breast stimulation for an hour at a time, three times a day. Some practitioners only recommend doing this at a hospital, where you can be monitored, since very strong contractions could affect the baby's heart rate.

CASTOR OIL

WHY? May stimulate prostaglandin production (see Sex, above).

DOES IT WORK? Maybe. But castor oil is also a known laxative, so you may get terrible diarrhea before or during labor. Check with your doctor before trying this, or any, method."

"STEP 1: Have intercourse. Female orgasms may stimulate the first uterine contractions. Also, semen contains the hormone prostaglandin, which may soften the cervix, encouraging the beginning of labor. STEP 2: Have an enema and/or drink castor oil, both of which stimulate the bowels, which produces prostaglandin. STEP 3: Drink tea with parsley or cumin seeds. STEP 4: Have acupressure and homeopathic treatments administered carefully by an experienced practitioner. STEP 5: Massage nipples either with fingers or a warm towel. This stimulates the production of oxytocin, which causes uterine contractions. STEP 6: Walk, which also stimulates the release of oxytocin. STEP 7: Receive a dose of pitocin intravenously by a doctor. Pitocin is a synthetic form of oxytocin, which may induce labor. STEP 8: Have a doctor or midwife rupture the membranes (break the water bag) that surround the fetus. STEP 9: Have a doctor or midwife "strip" the membranes that surround the fetus. This is a common practice that may stimulate the beginning of labor. STEP 10: Have a doctor apply prostaglandin as a gel to the cervix (often as a precursor to administering pitocin). "

Sex and an orgasm is said to be the best. The sperm contains prostaglandins which help prepare the cervix, and having an orgasm prepares the cervix from the opposite side. Evening of primrose oil take 500mg orally and one gel cap in your vagina helps soften the cervix and will also make you stretchy so you won;t tear. Walking and stair climbing.. may help. They also say a good sappy, tear jerker movie and eggplant parmaseana... the movie provides an emotional release and the EP is said to be an meal that helps induce labor.
i'd leave the castor oil as a last resort... it;s pretty yucky.

Sex will do the trick. With my first child the baby was due the first and I had sex that night hoping to go into labor. I had the baby on the second. My fourth baby came three weeks early because of having sex with my husband. That was not my intention. I felt so guilty. Lucky for me though the baby was happy and healthy.

When I was running late with my first child, my mom gave me a couple of spoonfuls of castor oil (mixed with OJ cause it's not nice on the tounge) It started contractions within a couple of hours. Just remember, it is a laxative so be near a bathroom.

Sex, walking, and orange juice should help.

Some will say Black Cohosh and Castor Oil...but these are known to cause complications and are not entirely safe...so I would not use them if I were you. Your baby will come when good and ready; don't do anything stupid to make them come sooner if it's not safe.

walk around. That is the safest way to induce labor, next to sex. I would be for calling my doctor and getting induced though. good luck and congrats.
