Nicknames are very subjective. If you already use the term doll or sweetheart, it would mean a lot less than if it's a term that you don't use very frequently. I mean there's the overt ones, like love muffin, that may be a complete turn-off. Find a quality that you like about her and associate it with something cute. Like I was once called someones cuddly kitty and from then on they called me kitty, which meant more to me than anything in the world.

Well, it depends if you want it to be a take-off from her actual name or if it is just a stand-alone. Many nicknames come from actual names, but it is also common for them to be sparked from a person's habits, appearance, etc. It is too broad of a question to give you much feedback on, given that we know nothing about your characters. If you could expound a bit more on the relationship (are they in one together or does he just love her from afar?) between them, and the types of personalities they have, I'm sure you'd get some great suggestions. Good luck!

Nicknames need to suit the person. If the girl is beautiful then nicknames like angel face and goddess mine are cute, if the girl i beautiful in his eyes along names like baby, honey, darlin, dear, sweetie, honey, sugar, pookie, luvie, etc. are good. A diminutive of her name is only ok if she likes it. Some Sandras are nevery Sandy's some Patricias are always called Pat. If she likes animals names like bunny are ok, or her favorite cute cartoon character Like Tweety, or Pooh or Tigger.

I think "beautiful" is the nicest thing you can say..
But the best way to impress her, is to be interested in something she's interested in.. find out what her hobbies are and become interested in that yourself and somehow let her know.. OK? Calling a girl nicknames won't get you the girl. Having something in common, and being genuinly nice, will..

Well what is her name? you can say like, her last name only when you talk to her, or mix her first name with her last name for example: Derrek Harrington is now "Derrington" (even though its a boy name). or make a cute nickname of her first name or a cute nickname for her last name. either way no matter what you choose, it would probably be cool for her to here someone call her by a nickname they made up =) Even i would appreciate it.

Pigeon is like calling a girl chicken head. = not a good thing.
How about princess or precious.
I guess it would also depend on if the character is being called a nick name by a boyfriend or relative.

This may sound terrible, but I'm a big fan of when Tramp (from Lady & the Tramp) calls lady "Pidge," short for "Pigeon."
I don't know how well it relates to humans, but I've always adored it.
