Everyone does- it is natural and the older you are, the more concerned you should be. Talk to your doctor about any family history of birth defects/problems- he can do an amniocentesis and of course ultrasounds to check. Stop worrying though- your stress is felt by the baby also. Congratulations!

My first born was born with a condition where he needed major surgery at 6 months of age. We found out at the 20 week ultrasound when I was pregnant, the way we found out was devastating; but we asked for more tests to make a decision whether to proceed with pregnancy. Our son is 5 next year with no problems.

I give you this history, so you know where I am coming from.

If you were to find out that your child did have some birth defects it isn't the end of the world. It doesn't make you love your baby less; in fact it makes you treasure the lessons this child and experience have taught you and those you love.

I never imagined having a problem in pregnancy and I understand I am lucky because there is no other problems...but the lessons I learnt and the things I learnt about me were the greatest gift. It wasn't only me that learnt lessons but all of the support around us.

I wish you luck...but don't stress

With my first child who is 13 no I did not. And I think its because I was "young" {21} when I had her. With my second child who is 5 months old {I was 34 when I had him}, I had to be the worst patient my doctor had when it came to worrying about birth defects. I had every test performed, everything except amino. He kept telling me that my son was fine that as many ultrasounds as I had if something was wrong it would have shown up {had ultrasounds 2x's a month til I was 25 weeks pregnant then weekly til I delivered just shy of 35 weeks} but I insisted and he went along with me. my son is perfect in every way.

I did with the last one... I work at a center for preschoolers with disabilities, and so I see the challenges these children have every day. A girl I worked with had a son right before my daughter was born, and he was born with Down Syndrome. I did feel a little better in that I did have the resources I would have needed if I had had a child with a disabilty. I would also have had tons of knowledge to use, and a desire to help children with disabilities. I would have accepted my child, helped them to be the best they could, and done my best as a parent- just as with any other child!

I have stressed about it also. It is normal I am sure to feel this way. but they do so many test throughout out pregnancy that they could tell if something is wrong. I am 37 weeks and sometimes I still feel something is wrong until I go to the hospital for my next appointment and hear my baby's heart beat and than I am fine for a few more days. But it is normal for sure to have doubts and stress just try not to over stress cause it is unhealthy for you and your baby. good luck to you and your family.

yeah cuz there is so many occuring today, and that is including siamese twins. If i have twins one of these days here soon, i don't want them to be siamese (connected at a certain part of the body). i mean thats what im afraid of. Most of it i think comes from what they are putting in our foods now days...and that includes meat dairy products.

I never did, I figured I'd be able to handle whatever God handed me. He never gave me more than He, my husband and I could handle. Enjoy your pregnancy, don't worry so much.
