Male and female betas are not kept together (even by breeders) because they will fight and kill each other. There is a good chance that the male died from fighting with the female, and the the female is now injured from the fighting. She is now succeptable to infection if she hasn't already caught something, so I would add some salt to her water (1 tbsp per 5 gallons) and treat her with a mild antibiotic like melafix or betafix to prevent infection. Do not add a new male beta ever, and do not add any other fish until she is healthy again.

Maybe the female is sick with whatever illness the male died from. Check your water parameters... ie ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Amm and nitrite should be 0 and nitrate not over 10. Take a sample of water to your lfs and get them to check it if you dont have testkits. What temperature do you have the water at? They need tropical temperatures ie 24-27 Celcius.
I do believe fish mourn though. Did you have them in the same tank? Maybe give her a treat of frozen blood worm or brine shrimp to perk her up.
Dont add another male to the same tank. While your two may of got along it doesnt mean another one will get along with her.

You should take a sample of your tank water to your local pet store and have them check it.
I have owned a few beta fish and the pet store people told me they only live about 2-3 years. Do you have any idea how old your fish was/is ?

Ahh! Get her a new fish??
I know beta fish are called "fighting fish" because they fight with any other fish so how did it have a boyfriend?
Maybe you should take it to the vet
Of course it is mourning.. I had a guinea pig whose daughter died in the same cage as her and she was very sad and died soon afterr (probably because of old age) so I would suggest finding a replacement boyfriend for your fish!!

I would say get her another mate and hope for the best. Also try feeding her Beta Glucan. It is a supplemnet to boost humans' immune systems but is small quantities will do the same for our scaled little friends. Good Luck
