What is the probability of actually being selected for the jury? It is a day before her final exams and we were planning on going on a vacation after that.

Sorry, she is required by law to appear on the date, time and at the place shown on the Summons. She can explain her circumstances to the Judge and she may be excused for said jury duty.

Good Luck and Take Care

Call the phone number on the notice and ask to be rescheduled. She can't ask for total dismissal based on the reasons you have given here (all acceptable reasons are on the form she received).

I was supposed to appear for possible selection a while back, and completely forgot about it because I was out on job interviews. The day after, I was sweating, thinking the worst. I called the court and spoke with the jury selection office. They told me to calm down and then rescheduled me - for March 2007. I was relieved to say the least. Everybody has a civic obligation to participate in the jury process. As long as you call them and are cooperative about the scheduling thing, it should be ok.

It depends on the number of people summoned and the number of cases scheduled.

With fixed plans, especially finals, she can probably get a deferrment for a few weeks. Asking to come back in a month is much more likely to get a yes than asking to be exempt.

She will more than likly not get called into the courtroom. Stanby means that if someone request a jury she might get picked . She will spend about 5 hours there and go home.
