No, Overdrive is inherently DESIGNED to keep gas above the brink of 35-40mph. All contemporary automobiles have an better equipment ratio referred to as overdrive, as long because of the fact thechronic ratio is bigger than one million:one million. Many automobiles till now the early ninety's don't have this. almost each and every motor vehicle considering then has it. you purely decide directly to tutor OVERDRIVE OFF once you're ascending or descending a protracted incline (which contain a mountain), or towing a heavy load. whilst going uphill, some automobiles have a tendency to "hunt" between gears, putting greater tension on the transmission, and finally slowing your ascent (turning OFF overdrive will sidestep this). whilst going downhill with overdrive OFF, your engine does countless the braking for you, assisting take the tension off your brakes as you descend, extending the existence of your brakes by utilising assisting sidestep brake burnout.

Just the opposite, you should have it off at or below speeds of 35 mph, anything above that, especially if at a near constant sustained speed, you should have overdrive on. I imagine you have a Ford?

You'll get better milage if you leave it ON and forget about it.

It doesn't make any difference to the average driver on a road. (It has to do with gear ratios.) It would only make a difference if you were having trouble towing something or getting enough traction. I'm guessing you are just driving on road - you should turn it on and leave it on.

Best of luck!

The only time that you turn off the overdrive, is if you're towing a trailer....Keeping it on will damage the transmission. Otherwise, keep it on at all times....

No. That's when it is most efficient and effective at improving fuel economy. Only disable it if you need a little more stability on icy roads, or want to slow the vehicle, or need more power, just like a manual downshift.
