I have a client who is emberrassed of her large ears, She cant afford the Otoplasty procedure so as a substitute she super glues her ears to her head and whenever she feals them becoming loose she does a touchup. I wanted to know if this could cause any long term damage?

I don't think it could cause any LONG-term damage. . . but I'm sure that the skin behind her ears is probably irritated from not being able to breathe properly. It might also cause problems cleaning back there. . . I know that my shampoo has a tendency to build up behind my ears unless I make a point of cleaning them off.

This is probably mind over matter, but I have always been embarrassed about my ears. . . When I was at home or not working I started wearing a bandanna in my hair. I would push it only so far back so that you could see my face, but I would keep my ears hidden underneath. I kept it tied pretty tight so not only did it completely hide my ears, but I felt like I was doing something to help them become more flush with my head. Maybe you could suggest that as an alternative to the glue???

Glue Ears Back

Double sided tape used at night might take longer to train them to stay back, but it is less intrusive and works. I had ears that REALLY stuck out. Between wearing a headband that covers the tops of my ears to hold them back at different times during the day when I was alone (I love winter because I can wear a toboggan 24/7 😎) and the double sided tape at night (which comes off easily in the morning shower), my ears are 2/3 of the way to being "pinned back". Of course, the 1/3 that's left for me may be worse than you're normal ones (mine really did stick out). This was over the past 9 months.

Why do people bang on about low self confidence every time someone wants to cosmetically correct something - if it was decorating in the house or a car that needed upkeep or improvement you'd do it - so stop with the guilt-mongering and get a make-over yourself!

I think the long term damage will be due to her extremely low self confidence... the super glue will just cause her some itching.

Sorry,

i dont know for sure....but i would imagine that the skin around the area having the glue put on would become very irritated and could eventually be infected....other than that i cant see any long term damage resulting in this unusual behaviour......

that is crazy. i'd be more worried about the effects of the superglue than the large ears.

I don't think that sounds like a good plan. SuperGlue and skin don't mix.
