The Age of Discovery or Age of Exploration was a period from the early 15th century and continuing into the early 17th century, during which European ships traveled around the world to search for new trading routes and partners to feed burgeoning capitalism (Mercantilism) in Europe. They also were in search for trading goods like gold and silver. In the process, Europeans encountered peoples and mapped lands previously unknown to them.
Inspired by the Spanish riches from their disease assisted conquest of the Aztecs, Incas, and other large Native American populations in the sixteenth century, the first Englishmen to settle in America hoped for some of the same rich discoveries when they first established a settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. While their areas of settlement in the Americas proved to be devoid of the precious metals found by the Spanish, trade in other commodities and products that could be sold at massive profit in Europe provided another reason for crossing the Atlantic, in particular furs from Canada, tobacco and cotton grown in Virginia and sugar in the islands of the Caribbean and Brazil

The English were more interested in appropiating land wrongfully and unjustly from Native Americans for The country of England than anything else, because they saw they could use force to take vast lands rich in natural resources.
Ultimately, the more colonization, the more control England would have of this "New discovered Land's" wealth.

The riches of the orient. One must remember that a single ship bringing spices, silk, porcelain, and other such goodies back from the orient would repay the cost of a number of failed expeditions, and still return a fabulous profit.
