Need more details to answer this question. By the sound of it, you are installing a floating floor. However I will start by answering for "real" hardwood.
For a nail down application - you will not need a underlayment for the flooring because the wood is nailed down.
For Glue down hardwood (on concrete) - you will not need an underlayment because the glue will help to seal the concrete.
for your floating floor, most floorings require that you use a thin mil plastic sheeting on top of your subfloor. After that you will install either the wood or in some cases a second foam typed underlayment.
Without knowing your exact materials this is the best advice I can offer.
If you are still in doubt, contact your supplier, or the company directly (usually a number can be found on the box).
Also, make sure to take the wood out of the packaging several days before installing. This will give the wood a chance to climatize and adjust to the environment. (this will help to prevent your floor from buckling).

not a complete question. But, that won't stop me from answering it! If it is real hardwood, nothing but the sub floor, because it is nailed in place. If it is the floating floor, thin layer of foam so the floor doesn't squeak when you walk on it.

There is a special kind of padding for under laminate. You can also buy some laminates with a pad attached.
