There are certainly exceptions to the rule, but I bet most people in Iraq are not among the most educated.
Kerry wants to claim he meant it as a joke - others say it was a mistake or came out the wrong way - blah, blah, blah.
The thing that seems to speak volumes to me is that this was not coming from a draft-dodger or someone who found a way into the National Guard, but from someone who indeed was in Viet Nam - and this is what he was thinking long after having experienced that (and what many people listening were probably thinking also).
I don't know much about the military, wars, etc. - so I am not the right person to be talking about it in detail - but don't see anyone else viewing it from this perspective. I think he was to a large extent right and really had no need to retract his statement other than the fact that this is politics and in politics you can't speak your mind.

YOU NEED TO BE HATING BUSH FOR HAVING YOUR BROTHER OVER IN THE MIDDLE EAST FIGHTING A STUPID MINDLESS WAR!!!
KERRY HAS DONE NOTHING TO BE HATED FOR! WHAT IS WITH THAT ANYWAY?? THE REPUBLICANS NEEDED SOMETHING TO HARP ON AND THEY JUMPED ALL OVER A STATEMENT THAT DID NOT MEAN ANYTHING ONE WAY OR THE OTHER!!
HE CLEARLY MISPOKE AND SO WHAT???!!!! DID HE KILL ANYONE??? DID HE CAUSE ANYONE TO GET BLOWN AWAY OR MAIMED BY WHAT HE SAID????
THERE ARE PLENTY OF EDUCATED PEOPLE IN THE MILITARY BUT THERE IS AN "IDIOT" RUNNING THIS COUNTRY INTO THE GROUND!!! WHAT ABOUT THAT??!!!
GET OFF KERRY'S ***!! I VOTED FOR HIM BEFORE AND I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM AGAIN IF HE DECIDED TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT.
ONE THING FOR SURE, IF KERRY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHEATED OUT OF THE ELECTION, YOUR BROTHER MIGHT BE HOME BY NOW ALONG WITH ALOT MORE OF THE MILITARY PERSONEL OVER THERE!!!

Your words in your question says it all. Your brother may be very well educated, and if he is, he will tell you that you only took all the spin from your leader and gurus and not your own research and findings of what actually took place with wanna-be comedian kerry's remarks. Bush is even a better comedian and kerry.

I am glad your brother is well educated and is in the army. Certainly with hundreds of thousands of men and women in the military, some are going to be very well educated.

I believe this is another attempt to propagandize what was a slip of the tongue. Kerry clearly meant to talk about Bush but had a slip of the tongue that the Republican party took and ran with it like it was manna from heaven. I guess every little bit helps......

I think we need to be respectful of our senators, but dissent and protest where necessary. Here's one I'll stand with the protestors on. But I cannot condone sedition. It may not be illegal, but I will ALWAYS respect the elected leaders of our country, the chosen representatives of our system of government, even as I disagree and speak up against what they say or do.

I already hated this sick liberal as I do all of the others. I totally agree with you about his stupid statement... he just proved the point that Democrats are against the armed services,,( look how clinton slashed our military defense fund to the bare bones, ) they hate our troops, they hate our morals.. and yes they hate our country,,, most said they were leaving when Bush kicked Kerry with the big Texas boot,,, but they are still here. I am still waiting for their departure... can't leave soon enough for me..... liberal want no justice... no laws,, no morals... and rejoice each time an american soldier dies... why because they want to get elected ... that is how sick they are... demented liberals... and Kerry is a prime example... of a real donkey... Ehhh awww.
