I don't think liberals for the most part are stupid. I think there are two categories. One is ignorant, or brainwashed. The other is blinded by arrogance, or some other emotion. The same can happen to conservatives really. Any political movement can be caused by hatred, or some emotional reaction. You can be brainwashed in any direction. I think the thing that bothers me the most about liberalism, is the double-standard, the lack of spine, the hypocrisy, and how they embrace thier petty issues and take the higher ground. Conservatives can make me mad too because they sometimes just insist they are right, and aren't open to discussion, and use lots of stupid slogans like "we're in a republic, not a democracy". I wish we could just debate the issues rather than call names, but if you don't have any facts to back your argument you have to accuse the opponent of not having a good heart.

and the right wingers believe they are self righteous and hold the truth. Right wing conservatives want to CONSERVE the way thing are - no change. Therefore someone who is a conservative thinker wouldn't want the slaves emancipated, or separate from Britain during the revolution - and speaking of Nazism, it is placed on the right wing side of the political spectrum, along with fascism. Liberals want to LIBERATE people from the old ways, and set them free, and allow them to think for themselves. Yes Lincoln was a Republican, but just because the name of the party is still the same, doesn't mean it's ideals haven't changed. Any of the early Republicans would be turning in their graves if they saw what a totalitarian corrupt, greedy organization their party has become today.

Yes Lincoln was a republican, but his philosophy was liberal.

no, i don't agree with clooney's statement. its neither here nor there in an arena where the past is unchangeable.

however, here's the thing. modern day republicans and modern day democrats are RADICALLY DIFFERENT than republicans and democrats in those times. they are not the same political parties. come on, did you ditch all of US History in 11th grade (standard public school grades) or what?

and the christian of germany who had it in their hearts to not comply with genocide have absolutely nothing to do with america, sorry. although i am sure they helped a lot, there has never been any evidence that the christians of germany were behind all of the opponancies of hitler. in fact, hitler used much of his religion (contrary popular belief) to further his cause, as he believed that christianity would justify what he was doing.

i had 1/4 of my family die in the concentration camps of nazi germany (aushwitz, berkenau, bergen-b.) and have personally experienced racism (even in los angeles), but if you are going to reference such atrocities please do not strip the victims of their dignity by not getting such basic facts right.

i see no need to reply to the islamists comment: not only is it neither here nor there, it is completely unsupported by even a tidbit of evidence.

You don't read in history books "and so he did the exact same thing that people had done for generations and nothing changed". You read about people who weren't afraid to chalange the norms.
