Sedatives would make them less responsive during a portion of the flight where they have to be in top form.

drugs are oficially frowned upon in the services must be the same for NASA,
they may take a bottle of wine if they are in space over Xmas
but who knows what goes on in reality
maybe the spacemen are spaced out on Marijuanna
but how does the smoke leave the rocket ???
,that means that everybody will get stoned ,

I would doubt it although some say they are fed stimulants such as amphetamines this I'll tend to believe for pilots as well
