It is representative of the fact that sex usually involves a bed which is primarily utilized for sleep...and people in general have a difficult time discussing sex therefore they de-sex it so it is less "dirty"...oh yeah and sometimes, after the sex part, when it's not with a prostitute, some people actually remain in the bed and SLEEP because of the after affects of hormones that are released. But, that is a different topic.

Let me ask you a simple question first: When your friend asked you that you sleep with a girl/boy. Do you think that your friend meant that you just sleep with her/her or more than that? But if it's in public, then that might just be a rumor only.

Because it is just a nice way of saying it, rather than saying someone was f*****g someone last night. it just sounds more tolerable.

I don't know the origins of that euphemism. Maybe it has something to do with the bed.

It's just less crude. Think logically.
Are they supposed to say "he was sexing her last night" ?
Well we could start that word going around.
