When you close the door it pushes a button (usually located at the bottom of the fridge). You know it goes off because you can even test it when the door is open by pushing it with your finger.

There's a switch that the door pushes when you close it, thereby shutting off the light. If that's not enough proof, you could put a video camera inside the refrigerator when the door is still open and the light is on, set the camera to record, and shut the door.
For a more low-tech solution, open the refrigerator door and feel the light bulb. If it had been on the whole time, it would be hot to the touch (even though, yes, it's in the fridge).

Yea it does and u can see it also. Try closing the door slowly. Just before the door gets stuck to the body coz of the plastic lining, you can see the light going out inside. This is because the door, when closing, pushes a button inside the refrigerator. Otherwise u can try putting a video cam inside. Close the door and open it again. U will certainly know. But i think the first one will definitely work out. I did it and it worked. try it.

The light does not go out!!! It might go out for maybe 2 or 3 minutes then a timer turns it back on. Power companies actually pay refrigerator manufactuers to install this device so our electric bills are huge. Otherwise the bill would be like 6 or 7 bucks. It's been going on for years.

Yes it does. I know because there is a button that when the door closes and depresses it the light goes off... you can do this yourself by pressing the button with your finger rather than going to the extreme of getting in the fridge yourself and shutting the door .... !!!!!

If the light did not go off with the door closed you would not get proper cooling. The bulb actually gives off more heat than the refrigerator can cool.

Yes it goes off. How do I know? I climbed in and closed the door. Don't try this at home now I did this back in the 60's.
