I went to the store earlier adn left my computer running, when I got home I saw that somehow 'mirar' was downloaded on my computer. No one was home at the time. I guess i removed all of it but my computer is still acting weird. [slow, laggy, closing windows i open]
My current virus program AVG, isn't detecting anything, but on StopSign [some commercial ad that provides a free scan] shows all other types of things.
I strongly dislike Norton aswell as McAfee and I don't want a trial version.
What is a reliable anti-virus program that is free?
Help would be appreciated.

That was once scareware urging you to hit its internet site. Since you went there, it'll now have downloaded a few truly malware. It's now time for a few truly scans. If you have got an anti-virus, ensure it has the state-of-the-art virus definitions and run a test with it in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking. That in general prevents malware from protective itself. If you don’t have one, many folks right here swear through AVG (it’s loose). I advise you additionally down load Ad-Aware Free and Spybot S&D (they’re loose), set up them, replace them and run them, once more in Safe Mode With Networking. Also, flip off System Restore to evict any copies of dangerous stuff that maybe lurking there. To get into Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking: one million. Log out and reboot your laptop. two. When the laptop begins the reboot series, press the F8 key frequently. three. Select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking from the ensuing menu. four. Login. If the malware has transformed your password, check out logging in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password. five. The laptop will preserve booting, however the Windows computing device will seem special. 6. When you are completed doing what you must do, sign off and reboot again into average mode. Note that although the anti-malware techniques do away with the malware, they will not be equipped to opposite the results. Search the Web for feasible fixes. Update and run the whole lot most of the time, no longer simply whilst you suppose you have already got malware. Good success.

Hi there,

Unfortunately you have been infected with the Mirar infection:

The best and easiest way to remove this infection is by installing the Free Trial of Prevx1. This will scan your PC and remove this and any other infections free of charge.

The most reliable anti-virus programs aren't free, but here you can download BitDefender Free Edition 8.0, I think it's a very good one :

For best results keep it updated and do a full scan every two weeks.

Ciao :)

You can go to the following site:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/
There are many free antivirus programs, but personally, I like this one:
AntiVir Personal Edition 7 -

It is for XP, but if you have an older O/S, they also offer a version of it for 9x/ME.
Good luck!
