And if so, how? Can you transfer more than 300 songs?

Yes, you can transfer any number of songs from iTunes on one computer to iTunes on another computer. You will need to "register" the new computer using your iTunes login information (you can register up to five computers to play your iTunes content).

Once that's done, you can go to the place you store your iTunes content on the original machine... you can locate this by clicking on the "edit" menu, then click "preferences" and then go to the "advanced" tab. That shows you the location of your iTunes Music folder.

You should copy that file (don't DELETE it) to a portable hard drive, or copy it across the network if the two computers are share-enabled on the same network.

Place it in the same location on your new machine (use the file structure you found on the original computer).

Then, even though the songs are all there, you may need to get it to recognize that the library is now available. You can do this by clicking on "file" and selecting "add folder to library" -- then you select the topmost file level and wait... and wait... and wait. Eventually, it will catalog all your songs.

Before you begin this process, be sure to export your playlists to a .txt file (which you can later import using the file menu) -- unless you want to have to recreate all of those by hand.

Also, be sure you get the top level folder, or you will not have the "Album Artwork" folder and the "iPod games" folder (if you have purchased any games).

Best of luck!

Sorta in a way... Just set itunes to "share music" then leave itunes running on your first computer and boot computer number 2, set it to search for shared music. It should see your other computer and be able to play music from it as long as itunes is running on both computers. (this is really only a temporary solution [ithink] cause I havent tried myself)
