(before flying bk to england) or do they need some kind of visa to enter Hawaii first??

Since Hawai'i is a US state, whatever document they need to get into the US will get them into Hawai'i. That would be a passport and probably a Visa, as well--they need to check what documents they will need well before their trip. The US embassy in England can provide the information needed.

No because Hawaii is a state so it would be the same requirements as flying from the U.K. to New York.

No, it's part of the US, so it would be considered a domestic flight. Just the usual picture ID is good enough....
