Moderate on some social issuses, and converative on ecomonic issuses. I vote on the canidate not the party because I voted libertatarin party in some elections because the republican was too socially conservative on issuses, and some democrats are to far left of the middle some are populists. I vote the middle of the road Canididate most times because polarization is not how things get done in congress. Too High Taxes are always bad for the ecomony because I rather work than be given goverment dole. High taxes discourage work, and led to dependant and depressed people. Yet, Tv ads I see most are streching the truth and I know most the ads shown blow something out of proportion. Sad that polticans cant debate issuses much anymore it more like they debate soundbites.

Most people are middle of the road. And like another post says, many declare a party for the primary, and then may switch back to being an independent or, in FL, No Party Affiliation (NPA). The number of NPA voters in this state has been growing faster than the ones for the Republicans or the Democrats. I think that alone speaks to growing disenchantment with our two-party political system in which the two parties are really boring mirrors of each other.

Well, there are both types. Some local people are members of the different party commities (Republicans & Democrats). Those members often only vote for their party as they think they are right, and there are no other reseniable choices. Then, there are the avg. person who some always votes for a certain party, but mostly for the candidate they feel is the best, not depending on their party. Also, some lean towards one party but can change when they feel like they need to.

I think most people declare one party or the other because the political rules dictate that you must have a party in order to vote in the primary. That being said, I think most people are moderate politically, although they tend to swing either to the right or the left on social or fiscal matters.

I usually vote Democratic, although I would vote for a liberal or moderate Republican as long as they were not conservative socially. But I don't vote for Democrats who are too liberal; I just skip that vote.

I don't really think it matters anymore. Battles between the two have shrouded away the issues. George Washington himself said that there should be no parties... he was right.
