Poly cystic ovarian disease - I have searched lots of websites for endless hours, and spoken to doctors (of course) but no one seems to have any really good suggestions to deal with the pain. Please note, I am talking about PCOD, not PCOS (PCOD is more severe).

I was diagnosed with PCOD about 6 years ago, I'm 39 now. I've never been able to find any really decent sites on it. My obgyn says that because it's probably grossly under diagnosed, there isn't really much about it.

If you are having ovarian pain or uterine pain, your hormones probably need to be adjusted. If you have just started hormone therapy, it may take a few months to adjust. My menstrual cycle was at one time, so incredibly painful, it would keep me in bed for days at a time on Hydrocodone. But now, my cycle doesn't bother me at all, an occasional cramp, but nothing much to complain about.

I take Yasmin 28s, and because of the weight problem, I take Metformin as well to regulate my blood sugar, and Cymbalta high dose for the moodiness. I have discovered that with more exercise and a better diet, I need the Metformin less and less.

The pain will lessen as soon as you find the right mix of meds. I'm really just waiting until I'm 45 (per my insurance) so I can get the whole disagreeable mess removed.

You might try these if you haven't already:

If your pain is severe you may need to get a perscription pain killer. Try taking Tylenol extra strength to start with. Things like Advil and other Ibuprophen related items work good but they are very damaging to the stomach and kidneys over time.
I have found that meditation, stretching, heating pads and herbal tea wil help with the pains too.

I just take ibuprofen. It helps with inflamation and pain. You could have an oopherectomy, but that's a last resort. Believe it or not, diet and exercise will help. I've heard it said that taking a progesterone only birth control pill will help. It may work for you. I don't believe in birth control though, so I just go the Advil route.
