At work, like most Americans that day, A buddy stopped in the shop and asked if we knew what was going on,,,,,,From there, the atmosphere just fell apart.....We where all ,as you said, shocked, and in disbelief. Pissed and terrified at the same time. I will never forget that day. It has shaped me into a different and better person ever since.

I was teaching to a room full of freshmen high school students. The TVs in the room came on and show the building smoking. I said to the class, "That poor family of that pilot that just hit that building. Can you imagine the lawsuit?" The second plane hit while we were watching, and I said, "The poor family of that air traffic controller steering planes into buildings! Can you imagine the lawsuit?" When one of my students said, "I think we are under attack!" I said, "No, I am sure there is an explanation," just as the newscaster broke in saying, "We are under attack...." And I then had to calm down my panicked classroom. I started making calls on my cell phone and passing around the phone to students who needed to check on loved ones. I had visions of "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" and me being stuck raising 30 freshmen students by myself....because until this was resolved I was in charge of them, and at that time we did not really know what was going on. We lived on a military base, and my sisters tried to talk me into coming home, but I told them I felt safer there than any where, because we had constant air cover and guards at the gates. It was a unique time in my life that I will never forget. Friends of mine say I need to visit New York now, and see the site, but I have not been able to bring myself to do it.

I was at my home in Fort Bragg, NC. (My husband was stationed there). I was getting ready to go to the hospital because I was taking support classes to quit smoking. At the hospital my car was carefully searched (inside and out). Needless to say, no one showed up to my support group and I realized that 9/11 was not the time to quit smoking.

I was also fending of phone calls from hysterical family and friends who were worried about my husband. It was a horrible day.

Teaching English at the University of Mexico in Mexico City (D.F.). The chairman of the department pulled the Americans out to watch the t.v. We thought we were watching the making of a disaster movie. One of the teachers had an uncle that died in WTC1 and a former colleague of mine died in WTC 2. I listened very closely all day because my brother's office was in WTC1. He was in London at the time.

I was at school, little 4th grade. I had been having an excellent day (the teachers didn't tell us anything had happened)
I was walking home from school and my sister met me at the bottom of the hill, as she always did, and was all- "Why're you skipping!" And I was all-"?" then she dragged me home and turned on the tv.
We went to our grandparents until my parents got off of work.
