My betta fish hasn't eaten for three days, and has only been floating at the top doinh nothing. In fact, right before I went to school today, he was lying down like he was dead and his mouth was wide open, but when I got back, he was up at the top floating again. Whenever I put my hand on the bowl, he either gives a little twitch, or does nothing. I've had this fish for about 1 year and a half, and he lives in a 1 gallon bowl. He just started doing this three days ago, and he is usually extremely active. Now, he just ignores the food like it isn't there, and he loves to eat. So, how should I take care of my fish so he doesn't "suffer" anymore? I don't like flushing or freezing fish so that's out of the question. This may sound a little wird, but I bury my fish in the ground when they die so that my ground will become better for the plants. I've looked up fish euthanasia websites but none of those methods sound appealing.

If you feel that there is nothing else you can do for him and you are sure he is dying then check this site out, http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-most-humane-way-to-euthanize-a-fish.htm

It can be very hard to make a decision like this but sometimes it is best for the fish.

i assume if it somewhat is injured badly, you will desire to flow forward and placed it out of it somewhat is misery. i do no longer think of you could take it to the vet. that is like taking a disposable lighter in for restoration. interior the destiny you will desire to save your fish up intense sufficient the place the canines can't get to them. A vet can no longer help with the fish. you could try it, yet you will get quite lots the comparable answer to procure right here. I surely HATE killing something. i got here across an injured poultry in my mom's driveway. A cat had caught it and were toying with it. SO the poultry replaced into close to dying and suffering. So I did the coolest factor (as undesirable as I hated it) and ended it somewhat is existence. yet i might somewhat try this than enable something take a seat there and die slowly.

Unfortuanetly your fish is old Betas only have a 1 year life span & you have had Very Good Luck having the little guy for 1 1/2 years. He is just old and feeble let it be until he dies then have a fishy funeral.
