Nationalism is a sense of national consciousness based on awareness of being part of a community - a "nation" - that has common institutions, traditions, language, and customs and that becomes the focus of the individual immortality.

Imperialism is the policy of extending on nation's power either by conquest of by establishing direct or indirect economic or cultural authority over another. Generally driven by economic self-interest, it can also be motivated by a sincere (if often misguided) sense of moral obligation.

Nationalism:Nationalism is an ideology that holds that a nation is the fundamental unit for human social life, and takes precedence over any other social and political principles. Nationalism makes certain political claims based upon this belief: above all, the claim that the nation is the only legitimate basis for the state, that each nation is entitled to its own state, and that the borders of the state should be congruent with the borders of the nation.Nationalism refers to both a political doctrine and any collective action by political and social movements on behalf of specific nations. Nationalism has had an enormous influence upon world history, since the nation-state has become the dominant form of state organization. Most of the world's population now lives in states which are, at least nominally, nation-states. Historians also use the term 'nationalism' to refer to this historical transition, and to the emergence of nationalist ideology and movements.
Imperalism:Imperialism is a policy of extending control or authority over foreign entities as a means of acquisition and/or maintenance of empires. This is either through direct territorial; conquest or settlement, or through indirect methods of exerting control on the politics and/or economy of these other entities. The term is used to describe the policy of a nation's dominance over distant lands, regardless of whether the nation considers itself part of the empire. The "Age of Imperialism" usually refers to the Old Imperialism period starting from 1860, when major European states started colonizing the other continents. The term 'Imperialism' was initially coined in the mid to late 1500s to reflect the policies of countries such as Britain and France's expansion into Africa, and the Americas. In Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism, Lenin argued that capitalism necessarily induced imperialism in order to find new markets and resources. This theory of necessary expansion of capitalism outside the boundaries of nation-states was also shared by Rosa Luxemburg and then by liberal philosopher Hannah Arendt.

iIf a country is too nationalist, to the point of imposing its own interests and policies to other nations, such country may be said to be imperialist, since imperalism is "the policy of seeking to extend the power , dominion, or territories of a nation."

In other words, imperialism could be traced as resulting from excessive nationalism.

Nationalism is a recognition of oneself as a part of a larger entity, namely, his or her country. This was a concept that the English had become aware of by the sixteenth century.

Imperialism is a search to extend the influence of a nation into other areas, particularly those that are relatively undeveloped. This was a hallmark of Western powers during the nineteenth century.

Since there is already a good definition of nationalsm up here, ill just say the definition of imperialism.

imperialism is control of some overseas territory by a nation. it can be militarily(actually taking this place over) or economicly(dominating their economy and controlling it, not necisarily directly, but just by providing all the goods for a certain area, thus controlling the prices of goods.)

Nationalism (not to be confused with patriotism) is like racism with a finer distinction to it. It is claming that your nation is better and more deserving than others.
