You have very little recourse.
First of all, there is no legal authority that oversees the "web", at least in terms of "false info". The closest thing you've got is the poster's ISP, or maybe the forum on which they post.
If it's a business, then you can report them to the authorities where the company is doing business. There are any number of vendors selling bogus stuff that have been shut down like this. However, in most cases they're located in a country that doesn't really care what people do on the "web" (unless it goes against the local politicians).
I had a Yahoo! Answers person threaten to "turn me in" for abuse because I actually emailed them to tell them that their post was wrong. Of course, I sent an email back to them, asking who they were gonna report me to, and letting them know that I had over a dozen email addresses (and was administrator of at least 10 of them).

It depends where they posted this information and what kind it is. If it is about you and they are located in the united states then you contact a lawyer in the united states and sue them for defamation of character. However if they posted it on their own private webspace you cant really do anything about it. Its hard to get websites taken down just look how much trouble the mpaa has and they have millions of dollars.

The web isn't regulated by anyone (so they say,) and basically anyone can post almost anything as long as it isn't trying to molest a child.
