Call your OB to make sure. Mine said that benadryl, sudafed, and claritin were all acceptable decongestants to take while pregnant. I have severe allergies and cannot take my prescription medications so I use benadryl to help cut the edge off. Just talk to your doctor before taking anything.

Benadryl is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm an unborn baby. Do not take Benadryl without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.

There are ZERO drugs, over the counter or prescription, that have been approved as being 100% safe to take during pregnancy!
There is no such thing as a placental barriar. Everything you ingest goes straight to your baby in the adult size dosage you took.
Take a Bradley childbirth class and learn everything you need to know. Learn the stuff you didnt want to know because the over the counter drug you took or wanted to take made you feel better!
Did you know that ultrasound subtly alters dna? Yeah. Its true. Those ultrasounds you get because you want to see the baby can cause damage that wont show up for YEARS! Do you really want to take a chance?!
How about pitocin that they routinely use to induce labor. DId you know that one of the side effects is spasms in your newborn?
Go to bradleybirth.com. Click on 'find an instructor'. Take a class!

Benadryl is on the list of approved medications. They gave it to me during labor because I had an allergic (itching) reaction to the epidural. As with anything, use in moderation.

There are no medicines that are declared "safe" for the baby however you need to weigh the risks with the benefits. The risks may be low and the benefits great. Can you check with a Dr or call a pharmacist?

Yes, it's safe. The doctor gave my daughter a list of safe medications and it's on the list. I got a brand new grand daughter last Tuesday :)
