A child who's parents use/abuse drugs are predisposed to drug use themselves, however there are exceptions to this. Additionally, drug use/abuse is a learned behavior, no one is born addicted to drugs. I believe that parents can both directly and indirectly influence their child's choice to use drugs by not providing them with the necessary life skills and coping strategies to deal with societal issues (life on life terms). This however is not a justification for the child to use.

I honestly do not believe parents have a major impact on a child's behavior when it comes to the use of drugs. Or at least not all child are affected. As a child I was neglected by both of my parents and my mother was involved with drugs, however, I have turned out to be a very successful person and am working my way into getting into medical school.

Parental influence isn't anything like it used to be when parents were respected and therefore trusted and obeyed. Hard headed children will do drugs and whatever else they want to and it's got nothing to do with the parents telling them not to. The good parents in the world can have the most horrible, hateful, stubborn children and yes I am speaking from experience. And who do these children come to when they've buried themselves and can't get out, THE PARENTS!!

Parental figures affect every aspect of a child's life. A parent who is around as much as a parent should be influences everything a child does and those habits carry over into the rest of your life. Drug usage can be caused by a number of different reasons involved with parents. Forbidding them can cause angry reaction and lead to usage, allowing them can lead to the lack of understanding of consequences of using them.
