I have been waiting for someone to ask this question.

I'm warm, friendly, and intelligent. I love to help people, and I hate hurting anyone. I love to laugh and I love to make people feel welcome. But, I'm overweight and, to me, not that pretty. Let's put it this way, I will never be Paris Hilton.

Most of the time, I feel good about myself. I haven't sacrificed any children and I haven't murdered any college students.

Then, I walk down the street and hear rude comments, see teenagers pointing and laughing, and men who look at me like they are praying I don't start a conversation with them.

You know what I wish was different? I wish people didn't feel the need to be cruel to people who are overweight. There is nothing like the feeling of worthlessness to make you go home and eat a half gallon of ice cream in one sitting.

Me, myself, I have become more independent and capable because of it and I've learned to be complete without the acceptance of the crowd. But, there are people out there who will hurt forever because of those comments and jokes.

For all those people who think being mean is the way to change people's behavior, I just wanted to tell you, you're failing. People have thrown moral restraint to the sidelines and they feel saying whatever they want is helping "fat" people see the light, that they will lose weight to avoid being the brunt of the joke. Instead, obesity is rising at an alarming rate, especially among women and children - the people who care most about what other people say.

As for myself, I have gone from 364 pounds to 250 pounds and I will reach my goal, despite all the people who laugh, point, or won't look at me when I walk by. I've dedicated my life to speaking to others about diet, exercise, and the problems of living with obesity. It's a tough road WITHOUT the rude comments, stares, or rejection. I guess you can help me by spreading the word.

Tell me, can you change the world?

Uhm....................
