Many of these engines have a little "blocker" lip on one side of the throttle body butterfly that tends to "cup" the air and block one side of the passage. Not sure why they did this, probably to alter throttle response. You can get a new blade, I think.
You could change exhaust for headers.
I don't believe all the hype with these aftermarket air filters. Those little conical ones they put inside the engine compartment sucks hot, turbulent air that has passed through the radiator which would most likely negatively affect power.
They sell a lot of intake and filter parts that are unnecessary on a stock engine because it can't pull enough air through it (with stock heads and cam) to take advantage of it.
Unless you're ready to spend a TON of money (piss it down a rathole) you should sell the vehicle to someone who is satisfied with it the way it is and get a V8 powered vehicle. It would be a **much** better value and have better results at the same time.
Anybody who has done an engine swap can tell you what an impractical and expensive task that is, and likely devalues the vehicle the whole time you're spending the money.
MUCH MUCH smarter to just sell it and get a V8. The only thing that would really satisfy you would be a Supercharger or Turbo, and nobody makes one for the 4.3. Even if they did, it would cost you $4000 plus installation, and sooner or later you'd tear up the entire motor trying to go fast with it. Lots of people have wasted money trying to make 6-bangers go fast and even with a supercharger (say, a Vortech on a V6 Camaro or Mustang) they're still not as fast as a V8 and end up being considerably less reliable.

Yep, just drop in a 350. I know magazines have been able to get 400 horses or so out of that engine, but as far as using it in a stock vehicle like that it will be tough. You do have the advantage of having a 94 4.3 though, which was the first year for vortecs for that engine, not for the V8s though. A turbo kit for that will gain you a lot of power with very little trouble, although it will be quite expensive.

What you can do to beef up the performance of your engine is installing a cold intake kit from K&N and installing a cat back kit from flowmasters, magnaflow, also what can be done is get a hypertech computer programmer and you can change all your shift points, and rev limiter. If its an automatic you could put a shift kit into the trans, or if its a standard you could upgrade the clutch to provide beter performance and quicker engagment. If you really want to beef up your engine you could put a supercharger on which will really wake up your truck but is very costly!

With a stock lift camshaft it will NOT! As the bandit said! ADDED: That is because people keep giving you false information! This is N O T an interference engine!!!!!!!!!!! (You can rotate the camshaft completely around with the piston @ TDC and NO contact will occur! (been there and done that) also 1992 and later 4.3L engines use a balance shaft that is driven off of the back of the camshaft gear. ADDED: @ ROB go ahead and take the ASE test bet you can't pass it because, you need something that you lack and that is Automotive knowledge and theory (that is knowing how something operates if you didn't know!)

IF U GOT CASH SWAP IT OUT FOR 350 5.7. IF U WANNA GO CHEAP GET K&N FILTER, FLOW EXHAUST AND GET A SPACER FOR THE THROTTLE BODY, ALL THIS WILL SEND U BACK ABOUT $200 - $300.
