Is it a bad thing to be Emo?
Should her mother be concerned?
Is she freaking out about nothing?
The daughter is 14.
THANKS

Depends on how emo her daughter is. I'm emo, but not like bad emo. Emo = emotional. lol Every girl is emotional! DUH! lol No, I'm emo like: 1. I listen to "emo" music. 2. I cry sometimes @ funerals, weddings, when I'm upset! :) 3. I like romance books aka. Love Comes Softly etc. Ok, so there's that emo. Then there's emo like: 1. I'm worth nothing and the world hates me. 2. I hate everyone in the world. 3. I'm going to commit suicide.

I'm not like those last three by the way. :D I'm actually a generally happy person, but, I think your friend is overreacting. Don't worry about it. Most emo girls are more like me! :)

Don't believe down on your self in any respect. I am from New York, so I've been a circular all forms of humans & patterns. You don't seem to be a poser simply given that you have got a targeted sort. Everybody copes in unique approaches. I am definite that there are different humans climate they're in or out of college for you to discover you outstanding. Try routine for your the city or town in which you'll be able to meet new humans, probably even your favourite loved ones member. YOU ARE NOT A POSER, YOU ARE UNIQUE, DON'T LISTEN TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN BE MEAN.

First of all, emos can't be girls, only guys. It could be taken offensively if you think emos are weird. Emos are boys that wear eyeliner, make-up, and are just very punk. If someone called me that, I'd just laugh at their immaturity for thinking an emo would even be a girl. I hope this helped. Yes,she's overreacting, unless she got offended for being called a boy, but I think this person was just stupid and thought emos could be girls. By the way, don't listen to the guy above me. "SOME" emos cut themselves. It's not a whole society made up of cutting one's self. He needs to actually find out what it is before saying something that offensive. An emo could've answered this, and what would they see? Some guy who thinks he knows what one is.

It is just a fan of certain alternative music (like Panic! At The Disco, 30 Seconds To Mars, Bright Eyes...). I was a raging punk rocker back in the day, so EMO would be pretty mild.

It isn't a put-down. The Mom needs to be a bit more "cool" in her knowledge of music....

This is what I found: Emo (an abbreviation of "emotionally-driven Hardcore punk") is a term now broadly used to describe almost any form of guitar-driven alternative rock that expresses emotions beyond traditional punk's limited emotional palette of alienation and rage. It is also used to describe fans of this genre, most commonly teenagers. (e.g., emo kid). The actual term "emo" originated in the mid-1980s D.C. scene, with the band Rites of Spring, as well as bands such as Fugazi, Moss Icon, and Antioch Arrow. ...

EMO is short for emotional. like some of the new bands that are out there now, most of them cry allot about stupid little things. they are what we call emo bands. if somebody calls somebody an emo they are saying that that person is emotional.

They wear childrens or very small adult t-shirts and tops from the 70's and early 80's, chuck taylors, horn rim glasses, mope around a lot, dye their hair, get unusual angle haircuts and listen to really "emo"tional songs.

The girl will grow out of it, just like we grew out of feathered haircuts and tons of lip gloss.

Kinda Funny... I am 37 and had to ask my kids the same question. From what I understand it is a sub culture not unlike grunge or goth. They have their own music, dress style.. ect...
However one thing that seperates or identify's them is that they cut thier body. The music is full of lyrics about cutting ones self and the satisfaction from doing so or the blood spilling or something like that. good luck.
