wow, girl! there are too many!try any S.E. Hinton books, like the outsiders or that was then this is now, or try ny paul zindel like the pig man and a bagonnia for miss appealbaum. i also liked adrew clements when i was young ( i don't mean young like a kid, but like a yough yough adult. you really really have to read things not seen by him. i love it.READ IT!oh, and also so always remember to not judge a book by its cover. that's what i used to do, if i saw a book with an ugly cover, i would not read.after reading the outsiders, i learned to not judge. i might be some help to you or not, but that's all i have to say, i hope you find "the best book" your looking for.bye.

Warrior series!
They are about cats no extreme violence in it. Im 12 and all the people I know who read think its great. Even my 14 year old cousin and younger friend love them. The first book is Into the wild by Erin Hunter. But there are many others too like
Stargirl, The chronicles of Narnia, Shadow Spinner by Susan Fletcher, Fever 1793 and Speak both by Laurie Halse Anderson, Clique, The house of Dies Drear by Virginia Hamilton and Eragon
and also Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine anything from Madeline L Engle and Don't look behind you by Lois Duncan and Wanted, Both sides of time, freeze tag all by Caroline B.Coony, and Island of the Dolphins and Sing down the Moon by Scott O'Dell and Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers and Ill add more later

I'll also vote for Harriet the Spy and the rest of that series - Sport and The Long Summer. I can't remember the author but I liked The Mysterious Disappearance of Noel, I Mean Leon, The Tattoed Potato and Other Clues, The Westing Game, etc. Recently, the Trixie Belden mysteries were rereleased - they are fun.

1st Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith, the first of a wonderfully written series, each not too terribly long.

Here is one reader's comment:
I absolutely loved, loved, loved this book. It's technically classified as a mystery because the heroine, 30ish Precious Ramotswe, operates Botswana's first female-owned detective agency, The Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency. But to pigeonhole this sublime, wonderful book as just a mystery is to unjustly limit its appeal. Mma Ramotswe does solve a few cases, a lot of them involving matters of the heart, during the course of the book. She does so with integrity, a gentle sense of humor , compassion

and just plain common sense. The mysteries are fun but what makes this book so special is the author's ability to weave together the themes of African tradition, nationhood, pride, simplicity and independence without being the least bit preachy . The writing is just so simple and beautiful and I found myself thinking about this book long after I finished it. It just stays with you. I've already read the second installment in this series, Tears of the Giraffe, and there is no doubt in my mind now that these books are destined to become classics. Anyone who likes mysteries, or anyone who enjoys just plain good writing will fall in love with Mma. Ramotswe. A superb book.

Here's a list of some of my favorite books from middle school, and other middle school - level books I've read since:

"Ella Enchanted"
"The Giver"
"Gathering Blue" (sort of a sequal to The Giver, but you don't have to read them in order)
"Messenger" (read this one after The Giver and Gathering Blue)
The California Diaries Series by Ann M. Martin (these are out of print, however, so you have to check your library or buy them used online)
"The Iron Ring"
A Series of Unfortunate Events
"Running Out of Time"

That totally depends on what she's interested in. Horses? Race cars? Ancient Egypt? Stars? Bugs? Skate boards? You have to know the girl.

Have you read "The Notebook"? It's an awesome love story. I've read it several times. It's just like the movie... Except Better.
