Haunted House ideas?

Looking for ideas for next year. If you went out, did you see any neighborhood haunted houses? What were the good special effects? What scared you the most? What was really cool?

As to scares, it is often debated whether to have gorey vs creepy or even cartoonish. Depends on your audience. Gore is popular with teens and twentysomethings, whereas creepy covers all ages and cartoonish appeals to the little kids. If you have a haunted maze, you want to scare forward - keeping your audience moving by scaring them from behind. Of course, this can get monotonous, so you want to vary the scares with some from the sides or below. Misdirection is also very good: have a light focussed on a coffin across the room - the audience thinks something will jump out of the coffin - then the monster attacks from behind.

I have some good ideas for a haunted house: Definitely have someone dress up as a scary clown. People are scared of clowns. Also why not make it like a maze in the dark where people have to feel there way thru and just have the people in the haunted house scare them by grabbing them as they feel their way thru. What about a slide? I heard of a haunted house having a slide of death. Good luck.
