I got my associates degree from a community college. I had classes there where even during the day classes I had people that were age 16-54 and everything inbetween. Let me encourage you to at least get an associates degree, because almost all places of work, where you can advance past an entry level position require some sort of degree. Best of luck to you.
(Another way to look at it, you are older, but have more life experience and therefore have an advantage.)

College is hard, and knowing your older than your classmates can be intimidating at first, but you have to think about the positives. For one, you have more real world experience than most of the others in your class. You have problem solving abilities that aren't tied only to book-learning - and that's worth it's weight in gold.

Secondly, you're there for yourself. For whatever reason you decided college was the right answre for you. What made you enroll? Being able to relate with your classmates will make for a less stressful more highschool like atmosphere, but ultimately, you're counting on yourself to rise to the challenge.

Thirdly, you're going to age. Time is going to pass regardless of you attending a university. In five years, you're going to be older. Do you want to be 5 years older working a job you hate, or 5 years older with a degree?

Lastly, when you look back at your accomplishments, or you interview for a job you've worked hard to get, nobody is going to ask you about your age in relation to the graduating class. College is a great deal different from highschool. Give it a little time, and you might find age is a lot less important than you think.

Stick to it, I think you'll be glad you did.

A college education is the single most important thing. Now more than ever jobs look for and hire candidates who have at least a bachelors degree. Just think what are your aspirations? what do you see yourself doing for the rest of your life?

I am sure that other students in your class don't even give your age a second thought, but even if they did so what, right? You are going to school to better yourself, and achieve your goals.

I wish you the best of luck!! Study hard. Prove all those who doubted you wrong.

I went back to college at age 32 and graduated at age 36. Yes, there were 18, 19 and 20 year olds in the classes, but, guess what, I was more ready to learn than they were. They were still thinking with their high school attitudes and had not yet developed the maturity to do the work. P.S. I graduated with a 4.0. Continue to go to school, you are smart and intelligent and you know what you need to do. Don't let a little thing like someone Else's age, deter you from following your dream.

I am about to turn 25 and would like to go to college next semester. I dropped out a few years back because I had no purpose and now I do. At the time I was going for a business degree. Now I would like to be a writer. Don't worry about how old you are, focus on your goal and what you want out of life. Whether you get a job or decide to stay in college, do it with a purpose. You won't regret it because you in essence would be seeking your own happiness. And don't settle for anything less than that.

I went back at 29. You are not too old. Sure, the 18 and 20 year-olds are living a little different life than you are, but that doesn't mean you can't learn and get your education. I have found that you appreciate your education much more when you are older. I did not appreciate my professors and the opportunity to learn nearly as much when I was young as I did this last time around. That in and of itself was worth waiting for!! I gained much more knowledge than I would have had I gone back to school earlier.

stick it out - you'll be glad you did. There are a lot of people much older than you going to college. Don't worry so much about what other people think. It's honorable to do what you're doing and you should be proud of yourself for going back. You'll regret it if you drop out (you did the first time right? don't make the same mistake this time!) Quitting now will only yield regret and you shouldn't put it off because of an irrational fear of not "fitting in"....make the best of it, and good luck!

Honestly, who cares what some 18 or 20 year old punks think? You should be beyond feeling crummy because of stupid social situations. Either make friends with the others, or don't, but don't let yourself be intimidated by anyone in your class. Getting a college degree is such a huge advantage in life, it would be a shame if you gave it up just because you feel embarrassed or whatever.

What is it that you like to do? You don't have to go to college to be a success. Personally I think most colleges and universities are a waste these days. They're way too expensive and have become mostly indoctrination clinics. Sad but true.

Find out what you like and do it. You've got a GED, so you know how to learn things. Learn something you enjoy and you'll be successful if you stick with it.

Good luck.

24 is not too old for college. I always admired the courage it took older students to go to college, and by older I mean 35+. I'm sure no one is really noticing the 4 year age difference. My sister droped out of college at your age, and now that she is going back at 33 she is really regretting the decision.

Just get it over with, the sooner the better.
