I put baby oil in my baby's hair for about 30 minutes before his bath and then wash it out. Most of it would flake off when I was shampooing his hair.
They have cradle cap kits you can buy but I wouldn't recommend them because chances you have everything they have in those kits at home.... oil, comb, shampoo and lotion!
I would also like to point out that you really dont have to treat cradle cap because it will clear on its own over time. However baby oil does help with the appearance of it.
Good luck

Stick with soaking the scalp in baby oil for 20 minutes before the bath. Bath as normal and wash out the baby oil with baby shampoo. The cradle cap will brush right out afterwards. really bad cradle cap might take 2 or 3 applications. Baby's skin is too sensitive for the harsh chemicals in Selsun Blue, plus if you got into their eyes you could cause lasting damage or at the very least have a very angry grumpy baby for a few days with sore eyes.

sometimes there isn't a way to prevent it. When my daughter was about 2 months she got cradle cap. I gave her a bath and while her hair was still wet i put a lil bit of baby oil in my hands and massaged into her scalp. took a baby comb and gently combed her hair. after each time i wiped the comb off. most of it came out, but depending on the severity of the cradle cap it may take several times. there is also something i've seen in a magazine cradle cap treatment. but i never was able to find it around VA in a store. Hope this helps in case your newborn gets it.

Iv read a lot of your answers to this question and everyone seems to say baby oil. but I was told to never use baby oil because it dries out the baby's skin. Iv had 2 kids now and have never been able to totally get rid of it. You can try before a bath put lotion on baby's head and use a soft comb to lift and comb out the cradle cap it doesn't keep it from coming back ( I don't think anything does) then give baby a bath to get all the greasy lotion out. if you do this for a few days before somewhere you have to be it will at least get rid of it temporarily

There is a product in the baby isle spacifically for cradle-cap removal. I've used it and gotten wonderful results. Before they came out with that I also used baby oil and a soft brush to scrub it off. All 5 of my children had it to some degree in their infancy. Make sure when you wash your baby's head that you get all of the soap or shampoo out of their hair, as it will cause the cradle-cap to get worse.

I noticed a lot of you use baby oil, good choice! Baby oil does work but here is a little twist, use baking soda with it. After applying the oil, sprinkle on a little baking soda and massage the scalp, it lifts the dry skin off of the scalp and then you can shampoo it away. Cradle cap is not a disease or bad parenting, sometimes it can be chalked up to genetics. Its an overproduction of skin cells, which then build up on scalp. Sometimes a little baby lotion can help, depending on your ethnicity's and skin type.

WHEN MY CHILDREN WHERE YOUNG AND GOT CRADLE CAP I WOULD PUT BABY OIL IN THERE HAIR WHERE THE CRADLE CAP WAS AT. AND THEN USE A BABY TOOTH BRUSH AND BRUSH THE CRADLE CAP IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I WOULD HAVE TO DO IT A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT IT DID THE TRICK THOUGH.

Hi, we had the same problem with our little boy. We used the "Ultimate Baby Ointment" by Noodle & Boo (purchased at http://www.SpiffyBaby.com). This ointment is great for treating the cradle cap or severe diaper rash. Good luck

When my son had cradle cap, I just used baby oil and massaged it in his skin/barely any hair...with a baby brush every day. Went away with in a week.
