BSG is enjoying success due to the writing and strong storyline that is relevant to what is going on in the world today. This is a contrast to the 70's incarnation that is conservative and one sided.

Your thoughts, opinons on your like and dislike of the original, new series, and both.

I'm probably going to take a lot of crap for this, but I really like the new version much better than the original. Mostly in today's society where so many are preaching a conservative religious view for others to conform to. The new version brings up questions about forcing beliefs on a society and the breakdown that happens to those beliefs once the enforcers' actions are brought into question.

While I like the in depth characterizations on the new BSG - and enjoy the show immensely - I do not enjoy its borderline porn sex. Is it really necessary? I mean - there are ways to leave the viewer with a clear assumption of that going on without the details thrown in our faces.

My other objection is the Politically Correct attitude in changing the familiar names from the original into Call-signs / Nicknames so they can do a gender swap and race swap. I liked the black Col. Tigh.., he was cool. I see no wrong in keeping it that way. I cant adjust to a female Starbuck. Starbuck was a guy and should remain a guy. Oh great - I just had a horrible thought! the only thing worse would be to do a sex change on the current female Starbuck.

I appreciate the more realism involved and yes I do think they are using many of current world events in the mix - even so, I think stronger shades from the past show could have blended well.

Except for some sparse dialog and simularity of the space crafts - the show is not Battlestar Galactica. Its really something else, and Richard Hatch is a sell out. ***grumble-grumble-grumble**

Okay - you asked and there it is. ;-)

I like the second incarnation, the one on now. The characters are better developed, story lines better, scripts better, etc. Even though I thought I would have a problem with Starbuck and Boomer being female, but I got over that by the second show. And Boomer being a Cylon, great twist.
The first one was good for it's time, now it seems a little lame.

You're right, the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is more toward human and social structure of today. It is great, I really enjoy it.

I also enjoy the original, however, for the fun of it, even then, however they tried to search for answersthat mattered then, however.

I would definately like to see an updated version of that, also the actors were excellent!
