If a girl is 17, which is the age of consent in many states, Does it matter if the guy has reached a certain age...say five or six years older for example?

Some states differentiate. If I recall correctly, Kansas allows a four-year gap between the parties. The penalty is minimal. If it is more than four years they just throw away the key.

18 is legal consent age in most states. 17 is "semi-legal", being close to 18. the laws just don't hold the legal age as being in black and white. they allow the gray area of 17, and over look it. in a matter of thought..."so close, why bother?"

a man whom is older should be respectful of the 17 year old until she is age 18, if for nothing more than to protect himself. but, nine times out of ten. the 17 year old girl will give the verbal go ahead anyways. because if she is any where near an older man of any age, she is looking to cross the line in the first place. what can the law do after once it is done with consent? the law won't be enforced. these days, they never are.

if she is the age of consent, and you are certain, then you cannot be charged with anything.

If however that age of consent has any caveats (like with other under the age of 18) then you might be in trouble.

As much as I envy your position... I'd say wait if you can!

Yes it matters legally. If a guy is that interested, he should be able to wait until she is of LEGAL and consenting age.
