Your mother in law probably has the mentality that its better to error on the safe side. Being to cold is much worse than being too hot. People in their 50s and 60s are generally usually a little over the top because they are used to compensating for medical advice that didn't always hit the bullseye, that of their era. You simply have to prove her wrong if it gets to be a problem. Cite the facts to back up your argument and mention the ill effects of overheating and dermal suffocation.

As a mother of 5 I can tell you that babies are very resiliant. They have the extra fat not only as an added food sorce for their rapid development, but also as a layer of protection. When the weather causes you as an adult to want a jacket, then the baby would also then need aditional coverage, but a snowsuit is created to keep in a great majority of heat and may cause the baby to sweat if it's too warm outside, thereby giving her chills. I suggest that you inform your mother-in-law that a regular jacket or sweater with layers of blankets would be a better choice, seeing as how blankets can be more easily removed should your baby begin to get too hot. I live in Minnesota, which gets just as cold as New York, if not worse, and yes, definately the snowsuit will be of great use once you have moved...until then, use your best judgement and ask your mother-in-law to give you some room to be a parent.

Well, unless you are outside for extensive periods of time there really is no need for a snowsuit for a 4 month old. If you keep your car in the garage and/or warm it up before you take the baby outside to the car & then straight from the car into wherever you are going she's not going to get too cold regardless. Although, sometimes us "moms" think we know everything. LOL Good luck!

How cold is it? As long as you cover her head outside at ALL times she should be fine without a snowsuit if it isn't freezing outside, just a nice warm jacket and a good hat to keep her ears covered.

Ask your mother in law would she wear a snowsuit right now. Also let her know that you are suppose to dress your baby as if you were dressing yourself so that the baby doesn't get overheated.

If you bundle a baby up and they get to hot all that is going to happen is they will get sick. The idea is to keep their boby at a constant temperature. If you aren't cold in a light jacket they shouldn't be. Tell you mother in law you value her opionion ans concerns but you would like to try a jacket before you go turning her into furball

Are you wearing a winter coat. If not then the baby needs just alittle more clothing than you do. If you are wearing a tee shirt put a sweater over the babys tee shirt.

There is probably no way to do that. You will just have to understand those that are older than us always feel that they know more and respect her advise but know that your daughter is just that your daughter and follow your heart as her mom you know what is best without someone telling you.
