College hockey for boys and men are usually sold out. I know you cannot compare apples and oranges. However, the sport of tennis for men and women attracts a lot of spectators and support. Each group is just as popular and attracts the same number of audience to watch them in tennis...men and women! Why not hockey...some of these girls and women are phenomenal!

The first three answers tell you why.. Most casual fans who know nothing about hockey have that attitude and don;t give women's hockey a chance.. Anyone who has been associated with youth hockey in the US and Canada knows first hand the influx of young women playing in both the boys leagues and girls only leagues,, Ann Arbor has two girl travel teams.. most communities that house a boys travel team have a girls travel team available as well..

I have three kids.. the eldest, pictured by my name.. and my youngest, play hockey.. the eldest is ten.. the youngest is a five year old girl who is already skating backwards and stick handling.. The middle, a boy, has no interest and I don't force it..

Several travel hockey teams in this area have a girl playing on them..

As for the fastest growing sport.. the number of girls playing hockey at any level is nearly 10 times greater than the number that played ten years ago.. Now, there were not alot playing ten years ago, so it's a spin on the numbers.. but the bottom line, is it is growing fast, very fast from where it was..

And I do believe we will see a decent Women's Hockey League in North America so good women hockey players, like Hayley Wickenheiser, Manon Rheaume and Cammie Granato don;t have to play in the Finnish Elite League or the East Coast Hockey League.. I certainly don't mind the women's brand of hockey that relies more on passing and skating than the men's

I just want to say I agree, it doesnt make much since, that every other womens sport is growing and sold out. I know were not quite as fast as Men's, but we also have some different regulations. It is growing though, not wicked fast, but I have a feeling in a couple of years its going to be big. The number of girls that have started to play is getting crazy. More then there use to be about 5 years ago, by a long shot. So I dont know who that guy thinks he is, saying its not growing, I want to know what hes on. And then I just want to say that, to whoever said we dont fight as well, then you have been mislead.

But I do think in a couple of years women's college hockey is going to be almost as sold out as men's. Great things take time =]

I think it is simply because we - as a society - have become so ingrained to the popularity of men's sports that it will take a long time for some women's sports to stand on their own and become equal to and surpass the financial performance of established leagues.

Demographics plays a part in it too. I lost count of how many women that I have heard say that they are usually "stuck with the kids" and miss out on attending games.

I was disappointed that the W.U.S.A. folded especially on the heels of the U.S. women's squad winning the World Cup. The W.N.B.A. seems to be doing well but it still has to rely on the financial backing of the N.B.A. for it's stability.

Then you have to consider that a lot of movers and shakers that are men, aren't ready to accept women's professional leagues and won't push for it. The good thing is that the societal pendulum is swinging in women's favor. Things will get better but it won't be overnight. Remember, that the men's professional leagues had to earn their popularity. For them too, it had to take time.
