Im trying to reinstall windows xp on a harddrive that already has xp on it. After going to the bootscreen and it asking me to continue with installing windows xp, it takes me to this blue screen and telling me i cannot continue and have to reboot. I rebooted the computer and it takes me to the same blue screen. What could be wrong?

The problem is when it is on the windows xp loading screen it takes like 15-20minutes to load up the computer on HD(1). The HD(2) was a spare i was using for data saving but now i want to use it as my main hd and use the HD(1) that im using right now as a data hd. the blue screen was telling me to deleting some files but now ill just reformat the whole HD(2) and see if it works. thanks for everyones input

Can you provide details of what the blue screen says? That would help tremendously.

With XP Home and Professional, you'll occasionally have problems that will require you to install Raid Drivers which will take care of the Restart Message that you're getting. With a little research, you can find the proper Raid Drivers for your particular model and make of computer. Download the files to a blank floppy disk and in the bios section, have the computer to boot the computer beginning with the A: Drive so that it will see the files on the floppy and loads them for you. If I can help, let me know. I dont mind at all. Larry Radio Shack

XP will NOT let you install 2 copies on the same partition.

Why do you want to reinstall?
"Repair" would be simpler, and you would NOT lose all your settings,

OR

You could use the "Recovery" to set it back to factory defaults.

IF you just HAVE to re-install, try starting in DOS mode and "delete" the file, "windows" from your C: drive.
That will remove the OS, and then you should be able to re-install.
Of course you would lose all your settings and "connections" to any programs you have added, and would have to reload them.

I hope you have backed up everything!

Sounds like a damaged cd, you can download single dll files all over the internet, snag the ones you need, then boot to the windows cd again and select repair console, then copy the files needed to their proper locations.
