I am moving out of state in a month and I have been sending out resumes using my soon to be address. I can't afford to go on interviews in my new state (to far to commute). What do I tell employers when they want me to come for an interview prior to my move date? Can I ask them to do a phone interview?

Tell the truth, explain to the caller that you have not moved yet, but are interested in the position that has been advertised/ posted. Since a face to face is out of the question at the moment, would the interviewer agree to a "screening (preliminary) interview" over the phone.

If you have the qualifications they seek they'll agree, out of curiosity if nothing else. Besides, you'll have a leg up on the competition due to your resourcefulness, ingenuity, and integrity.

You are approaching this backwards. You need to go there to get a job before you move. Have you researched the job market? How do you even know you will be able to work there? No, an employer is not going to interview you over the phone, don't ask them for that because it is not proper at all. When I moved 4 hours away, I went for interviews. They saw my address, where I was living and I explained I was going to move. I did get a job and did move.

Did you put on those resumes about moving to your new home? Most won't call and expect you to come there if they know your situation.
You could ask for a phone interview, but that's a bad first impression to me. I don;t think you should have worried about sending out resumes until you moved...Save and save so you can afford to pay bills 3 months ahead of time, that's what we do in case something bad were to happen..I hope everything works out for you and God Bless :D
