Mine was 11.5 years, until death did us part.
I think the secret is choosing to be with someone who makes you like yourself better when you're in their presence.

I have been with my Sweetheart for 6 years. I still love her as much as the first day I met her if not more. We have had some stormy and rocky times and broke up for 8 days. But we realized that neither of us can live without the other and be happy. Like some of the others have said communication is the most important thing in any relationship. Also having things in common and haveing a good sense of humor.

We're actually 42 months today! But we have been friends way before this 42 months, and the sexual attraction has been there ever since. I know 42 months can be quite a short time compared to the answers here, but it's like I've known her for quite a long time already. The first time I saw her, I knew then that we would be together. Even if I was with my girl then, and she was with her guy then. Sappy, I know, but I can no longer imagine my life without her.
I believe any relationship can last as long as 3 aspects are present: respect, trust, and love.
Everything starts with respect. You can't trust someone you don't respect. You can't love someone you don't trust.

Dear riverotter is correct up to a point. Gwenneth and I were together for 42 years. Love, of course, mutual interests, similar sense of humor, support in times of stress [this includes ones family. I was blessed in this, Gwen,s were violently homophobic}.
To be thoughtful toward each other and never cause pain.
All the above and just plain having FUN.
I am sure others can express it better.
I think Just in cre [please forgive spelling] told me of a couple who had been together for many more years.

That would be Rose P and her (unfortunately) now desceased partner. Theirs is a 42 years union. Mine and my Best Beloved are at 26 years.. I hope we can match them. Just remember to communicate, no matter how trivial the thing seems. I can't imagine life without my darling. Blessings and good luck to all of you who have love.

my last one was 5 1/2 years...but it was a rocky road. long distance with someone who couldn't trust, couldn't commit, and couldn't be honest.
I am now in a relationship of 2 1/2 years with someone who is open and honest, and we live together.
Being open and honest (communication) and is the best policy! ...and having lots in common!

Mine was 11 years. Patience was the key. I think it lasted 11 years because we learned to ignore each other towards the end...otherwise it would have been closer to 8.

We've been together 14 years, closing in of 15. I am going into 4 years with the love of my life.If she is not my soul mate, i will never have one. Our road gets rocky at times-but it's not about us,it's about the kids.She is so beautiful to me,and her touch still drives me crazy,and when she looks into my eyes i just melt.Sometimes i wish we could just hide away from the world,and i could just hold her forever,the best part of my day is at night-when i get to hold my baby in my arms at night!
