Uhm, quite difficult for me to ask anyone this in real life, so might as well give it a try here. I am a virgin and don't know how a "normal" hymen is supposed to look, in the relaxed position. I never used tampons because I am terrified of the stories I've heard.

Anyway, is there supposed to be a VISIBLE hole? Or does that hole only open when pressure is exerted on it? Thanks.

I'm just so confused...

Many people are under the impression that the hymen is located within the vagina. It is not. It’s a mucous membrane that is part of the vulva, the external genital organs. It’s located outside the vagina. The hymen is a layer of tissue, just like the tissue around the opening of your vagina that partially conceals the vaginal orifice.

Go to the link located below and see a photograph of the anatomy of the female vagina this will help you a lot!!!.

Your hymen is inside you and your can not see it. It is just before the entrance to the cervix. When you have intercouse the penis is pushed in past the hymen therefore the hymen collapses allowing full entry. The hymen is like a thin film or skin crossing the upper entrance. Preassure against it tears it. Any peices of the hymen will come out with discharge or your period.

Even though you may not have had intercourse a hymen may be broken. You would not know. Even a bike ride or hose ride can break it. And in some it is quite fragile and can break when you sneeze or cough violently. Generally, there is some traces of blood but it may not be much.

Only a gyno/doctor looking into you could see your hymen. Dont worry about it. When you marry many times the man can not tell. If your hymen is intact he may have to push through it or he will see signs of blood (spotting). But many times there is no blood.

If you want to stay a virgin for your husband that is wonderful but please dont worry that he will think you are not a virgin. It is a brain thing and he will know by the way you act.

Take Care

Its alright to be confused. Most of the time, you will not be able to see a hole (vagina). That is ok. It opens up more when your body is preparing for sex, when you get turned on. A hymen is a small tubular piece of skin that goes over the opening of the vagina. That doesn't mean that it covers up the hole. I am a virgin with my hymen, but I put in tampons all of the time without any problem at all. Just be careful; when you remove a tampon, don't jerk it out and you will be fine.

There should be a hole. Typically, a hymen doesn't cover the vagina completely. This is why tampons can be used when you are a virgin without breaking the hymen. There's enough stretchiness to a hymen as well as enough space to properly insert and remove a tampon. Occasionally, it can happen that a hymen partially breaks when using a tampon but, it's nothing to worry about. If you are still worried about being 'normal', you can see your doctor for a vaginal exam (she probably won't bother with a pap if you are young and virginal so don't worry).

If you want to use tampons, maybe you should try the tampax teen pack. They come in smaller sizes than regular tampax and might be more comfortable.

You will not be able to see your hymen. It is deep in your vagina. It may actually be already broken. You can break it from riding a bike or stretching. Its not painful. Dont be scared to use tampons. They are completely safe if you use them correctly. Since you are a virgin then I would recommend using slim fits. Follow the directions and dont forget to change it about every few hours. I hope I could help!!!

Your hymen is inside you and you cannot see it. The hole that you see is your vagina and that is where the tampon goes. If you are uncomfortable using tampons then use pads also this is something you should discuss with your mother.

ok, good question. i'm 35 and just now am realizing ALL WOMEN ARE MADE DIFFERENTLY. go to a gynecologist and if the doc says you are ok, then you are healthy and don't worry about how it looks. don't be fearful of tampons, women have used them for years and overall they work fine when used correctly. they are comfortable. talk to your mom, not girls who are your age and are only guessing the answers themselves.
