Rod Stewart seems to think so. After that first cut you tend to look at that person a little differently. You are not as open to injury. You distance yourself even if to a small degree so they are not able to hurt you as much the next time.

No, technically the first cut can be just a surface wound. Then they can cut deeper and deeper until they hit the bone!!
