I'm sorry this is going to come out a bit snarky, but how can a dead person commit suicide?

The true rumor about someone committing suicide was the Tinman. The original Tinman that was casted was allergic to the paint they used to color his face gray. When they had to replace him, he hung himself during the taping of the movie. You can see it in the background, but only if you have the original copy of the movie, after the Wicked Witch throws fireballs at Dorothy on the Yellow Brick Road while in the forest. But back in those days, editing was too expensive, so they didn’t take it out because it would take them over their budget. But, if you want a better myth that is true, play Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" with the original movie. Start it when the lion growls for the third time and mute the movie. The album will sink up with the movie for as long as the album runs, which is only about 2/3 of the movie. You have to have an open mind, but if you do it will freak you out and run with the course of the movie. It might seem far fetch, (even Pink Floyd denies they did it on purpose) but it really works!

I heard that myth too. The story I heard is that an actor playing a Munchkin was caught drinking on the set. He was scolded by the Director then fired and escorted out of the studio. Later during the filming of a musical number the disgraced actor returned to the studio unnoticed. He was terribly depressed and hanged himself in an area he thought was backstage. His dangling body was found soon after the scene was finished. The corpse was removed and production carried on accordingly. Apparently the spot where the actor took his life was part of the filmed scene. Some audience members throughout the original showings of the movie reported seeing a ghostly or shadowy image in the background during the musical number. These reports varied. Some viewers said they saw the shape of a man dangling from a rope and slowly swaying back & forth. Others said they saw a transparent figure in mid-air flailing it's arms. The worried studio executives had the master copy of the film scrutinized and indeed saw the ghost of the dead actor. It is believed the studio had the image edited from the reel and redistributed to movie houses. Most of the original copies were retrieved but some were'nt. Allegedly it's those few untouched reels which circulated throughout the years that show the hanged ghost.
.....................The actor who was originally cast as the Tin Man and had allergic reactions to the make-up was Buddy Ebsen who later found success in TV roles like "Jed Clampett" in the "Beverly Hillbillies" & the title role in "Barnaby Jones". He died at the age of 94 of natural causes. Clara Blandick (Auntie EM), suffering from enormous pain due to failing health committed suicide at the age of 81 by overdosing on pills. She tied a PLASTIC bag over her head.

I've heard it was a lovelorn Munchkin.

But it's just an urban legend. Someone already directed you to Snopes, so I'll give you this... did you know that if you start playing Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album at the beginning of the movie, right when the MGM lion roars for the third time, the lyrics match up to the movie's events really eerily?

I know it sounds like a product of "the circle," but we tried it my junior year of high school, and it really does work.

I heard that.. a man supposedly hung himself in the back of a set in the Wizard of Oz. My movie buff Film professor told the class it was a bird. If you watch it closely, it does look like a bird spreading its wings, but it would have to be a large bird.

You know, I heard this rumor too and asked people about it many times. The consensus I have received is that it is a lie. That never really happened.
