i am assuming you have written 3 and five tenths which is same as 35 /10 anyway.
first we simplify this term to 7/2
now the expression is 7/2 + 3/4
taking the LCM of the denominators 2 , 4 which is 4
we change 7/2 to an equivalent fraction with denominator 4 which is 14/4
now the expression becomes
14 /4 + 3/4
since the denominators are now the same we just add the numerators to get the answer
14 /4 + 3 / 4 = 17 / 4
which can be written as 4 and 1/4 or 4 1/4

You need to find the least common denominator. It would help to reduce the 5/10 to lowest terms - 1/2.

So: 3 1/2 + 3/4

Ignore the 3 for a moment:

1/2 + 3/4

The least common denominator is 4, so this becomes

2/4 + 3/4 = 5/4 = 1 1/4

Now add the 3 back in. The result is 4 1/4
