I'm not sure why this is happening, but it's the same dinging sounds as the car makes when you first start it. I just had the car serviced and it's leaking oil pretty badly now. Anyway, I'm wondering if the sounds it's making is related to a low oil warning or what it could mean?

I don't know... but my 2002 bmw 325i is a pain in the a*s and I'm all set with buying another one! Three NON wear & tear things broke on it in October. Let's see what November brings! this is my 2nd bmw (both bought new)... the first one was a lemon from the moment it arrived custom built in Germany! I'm all set.

Not sure either - but here is some info. Your obc should let you know of any warnings like low oil etc. If you don't have the obc panel it might be your outside temp display. It will ding at you when the temp reaches 37 or 38 degrees letting you know that the roads could have frozen spots etc. Also it could be your door latch, e brake or anything related to the ding.

I'm willing to bet it's a quick fix. I had a similar problem in a BMW i had, and the Mechanic told me that there is a sensor that regulates the flow of oil. When this sensor has been replaced or goes bad it needs to be told that all is ok again. The part costs like 12 dollars. I had this happen to me over here in Germany but i can't see it being alot different for you in the states. Good Luck. It's just a sensor.

It's the outside temp freeze warning. BMW sets it at factory to sound an alarm when it goes 35F or below to warn you of a potential frost or black ice.

Good heads-up if you ask me.
