I used to think that when I was 2 or 3 years of age. I guess some people never get past that stage. In other words, they sound retarded. haha.

If you want to be mean, you can ask what do they do. When they answer, make fun of their hobby/profession by doing some funny body move. LOL. If the say they like biking, pretend you are on a bike, swivel your butt left and right as if you are pedaling too hard for your own good. If they say they swim, pretend you are doggy-paddeling.
:-P

Are you saying that they don't ever do that? Isn't that a classic stance from ballet? It was probably fixated to people's minds by the little music box ballerina's that have been popular for many years. It is a generalization and people tend to generalize. If you told them you were a politician or an evangelist minister, they would probably check to make sure they still had their wallets.

Most of them think so. I think ballet is something that makes you be more graceful and appreciate arts better. Those people who thinks that ballerinas twirl in circles are just ignorant.

I don't know, but most people do that. I think that that's what they think Ballet is-- twirling around all the time and looking pretty.

Some people don't even know what they're talking about. Ballet is one of the most difficult style of dance. Of course it isn't true.

ik wat u mean...its soooooooooooo annoying. basically its normal ppl's perception of ballet twirling w/ yr hand over yr head, but really we don't do it that much! 4 some odd reason thats how people interpert ballet and i guess we just gotta live w/ it. ppl who think that of ballet really have no clue about any part of ballet! us ballerinas got 2 stick together and ignore ppls reactions like that, because sometimes they might even b offensive.

sadly yes....everyone i tell does that too....bouree isn't the ONLY dance step. its kind of insulting sometimes....when I told one of my friends she jumped around waving her arms and kicking her legs humming something....haha I'd like to see her even get their foot on the barre! When I told her that she actually agreed. I think people just like to joke around and make fun of how "girly" it is. But you know what they say....if ballet were any easier, it would be football!!!!

Sounds like they're confusing ballet with figure skating!
Don't let it worry you -- they're just advertising their ignorance. Keep on with your training and maybe, if they're lucky, they'll see you in Swan Lake or Les Sylphides.
