I have just become interested in anime the last few weeks and was hoping you could recommend some good anime movies.

None Japanese anime is for nerds try South Park or Family Guy they rule.

I'd say if you wanted a movie that made you think, watch Millenium Actress. It's a lovely film that won the same award as Spirited Away in the same year, so it must be as good. Plus, I feel it is more intriquing to an older (I'm saying around 13 and up)eye than Spirited Away.
Air is a very sad movie/series. I think this one is one of the best series beacause it really is one where you will cry. It has a VERY sad ending, but the story is good!

Start off with flare. Try Akira or A Wind Named Amnesia. You could jump straight in and go for Ninja Scroll or Samurai Warrior. You should also check out the actual actor movies. Bruce Lee is a bad, well...

Howl's Moving Castle
Spirited Away
The Cat Returns
Princess Monoke
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Whisper of the Heart
there's 15 or more movies of hayao's actually but i can't remember all. lol.

My favorite anime movie is Spirited Away. Howl's Moving Castle is also really good.

Voices from a distant star was rather sad. It's about 30 minutes long though.
Rouruni Kenshin OVA's are good if you like semi-ragic love stories.
Chobits is a show, but it's rather funny. Sexual content though, in case you don't prefer that.
Fruits basket is funny and light hearted.

You cannot go wrong with movies directed by Hayao Miyazaki. I got two of them, one of them is "Princess Mononoke". I would also recommend "Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind" and "Spirited Away". Very good movies.

Spirited Away is a great movie for those who like anime but aren't that hardcore. It doesn't have any big violence but I think its pretty good.

appleseed, sprited away, the inuyasha movies, naruto moive, the full metal alchemst movie, pokemon movies (joking, they pretty much suck). if you want a full selection, go to blockbuster. they've got a full rack of them.
